Attention ! All India Bar Examination V (2013) Aspirants
In a major relief to the fresh graduates, Bar Council of India has extended the date for All India Bar Examination (AIBE) V which was earlier scheduled to be held on 14 July 2013. It has also extended the deadlines for the registration and other formalities.

All India Bar Examination on Dec 9
The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) has been introduced by the Bar Council of India with the objective of examining an Advocate’s capability to practice the profession of law in India. It will assess skills at a basic level, and is intended to set a minimum benchmark for admission to the practice of law.It is also expected to addressa candidate’s analytical abilities and understanding basic knowledge of law.
Those passing the examination will be awarded ‘Certificate of Practice’ by the Bar Council of India.
The next AIBE will be conducted in 27 cities all across India on Dec 9, 2012. Candidates will have 11 languages to choose for attempting the examination. Examination pattern will consist of multiple choice questions and it will be open book exam.
AIBE will have questions from twenty subjects. These subjects are part of the syllabi prescribed by the Bar Council of India for the Three year and Five year L.L.B. programmes at Law schools in India (as set out under Schedule I to the Bar Council of India Rules). The subjects are divided into two categories, Category I and Category II and will come as two parts, I and II of the paper for the examination.
The examination paper will comprise at least seven questions from each subject under Category I. These questions from 11 subjects will from Part I of the examination paper. The subjects are (i) Alternative Dispute Resolution (ii) Civil Procedure Code and Limitation Act (iii) Constitutional Law (iv) Contract Law, including Specific Relief, Special Contracts, and Negotiable Instruments (v) Criminal Law I: The Indian Penal Code (vi) Criminal Procedure (vii) Drafting, Pleading and Conveyancing (viii) Evidence (ix) Jurisprudence (x) Professional Ethics and the Professional Code of Conduct for Advocates (xi) Property Law.
Category II, which will form Part II of the paper, will have a total of 23 questions from the subjects included under Category II as a whole. These twenty-three questions will include questions from at least five Category II subjects. The subjects of Category II are (i) Administrative Law (ii) Company Law (iii) Environmental Law (iv) Family Law (v) Human Rights Law (vi) Labour and Industrial Law (vii) Law of Tort including Motor Vehicle Accidents and Consumer Protection Law (viii) Principles of Taxation Law (ix) Public International Law.
Application has to be submitted online for the All India Bar Examination. This has to be completed in three stages. In Step 1, the applicant has to registerat http://www.allindiabarexamination.com/ and get the application number. In Step 2, the applicant will have to Download SBI Challan, fill it and deposit Fee in nearest SBI Branch. In Step 3, applicant should log in at the website, using the registered username and password, go to Application formand fill all informationand Submit Application.The applicant will have to upload photograph, signature and supporting documents.AIBE Helpline may be contacted in case of any queries (011-49225022, 011-49225023).
The website http://www.allindiabarexamination.com/says that the last date for sale of application is November 5, 2012. It is not clear whether there is any provision for offline application (in which case, sale outlets have to be mentioned which has not been done) or whether this is the last date for registering at the site to get the application number.
Examination fee varies as per the candidate type. For Fresh Candidates(those who areattempting the All India Bar Examination for the first time), the amount to be paid is Rs.1950/- (inclusive of examination fee of Rs. 1900/- and SBI charges or processing fee of Rs. 50/-).
Repeat Candidates (those who haveattempted the All India Bar Examination earlier), need to pay onlyRs. 1450/- (inclusive of examination fee of Rs. 1400/- and SBI charges or processing fee of Rs. 50/-). The repeat candidates need to provide their previous year's roll number.
The fee has to be deposited in any branch of State Bank of India using the SBI Challan specially prescribed for Bar Council of India for the purpose of All India Bar Examination (AIBE). Applicant has to download the Challan copy from the website and fill it, before visiting the branch. The Last Date of Submission of Challans is Nov 10, 2012.
The last date of Submission of Forms isNovember 11,2012. The Bar Council of India will issue a Certificate of Practice to the candidates who successfully clear the All India Bar Examination (AIBE).This certificate will be under the signature of the Chairman of Bar Council of India and Chairman of State Bar Council and will be sent to the address of the successful advocate.Candidates who have successfully cleared the examination will be receiving the Certificate of Practice within 30 days of the date of declaration of results.
